Margaret Rutherford’s Miss Marple: Murder and Mirth

Dr Mark Aldridge explores the behind-the-scenes story of the Miss Marple films starring Margaret Rutherford, before a screening of Murder at the Gallop.

Drawing on new research undertaken for his forthcoming book, Agatha Christie's Marple, Mark will share what Agatha Christie herself thought about the films and explore the battles over Miss Marple’s characterisation, as well as discussing the legacy of the films. The talk is followed by a screening of Murder at the Gallop (1963), which stars Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple in an adaptation of After the Funeral.
