Agatha Christie Festival 2019


This year’s festival saw a fantastic exhibition at Torre Abbey called Agatha Christie - Unfinished Portrait featuring treasured images and objects from the family archive.

Highlights included photos from her early life in Torquay and the typewriter on which many of her most famous stories were written. Speaker highlights included Sophie Hannah taking about her latest Poirot novel and Tony Medawar discussing his anthology Bodies from the Library, while Dr John Curran hosted a Christie Mystery Day at Torquay Museum. There were a number of theatrical treats including the touring production of The Mousetrap, Scream Queer Murder at the Lucky 7 Club, Murder, She Didn’t Write at the Palace Theatre and The Last Séance and Other Supernatural Tales in the Spanish Barn. Festival Director James Tyson also introduced a number of art and artistic installations and performances right across the Bay
