The International Agatha Christie Festival Mystery Short Story Writing Competition 2021

Each year the Festival invites children and young people across Devon to enter a competition to find the most promising short story about a mystery written by a young person. The winners receive an Apple iPad mini engraved with their name and their stories are read during Festival Week.

There are two age categories: 8-13 years and 14-18 years.

All the stories entered are read and judged by a panel that includes well known writers.  In 2021 the panel included Samira Hepburn and the winners were revealed online by Festival headliner Anthony Horowitz here:

Congratulations to our 2021 Winners:

Younger Category: Sophie Bryett-Smith for ‘Perspectives’

Older Category: Lily Taylor for ‘Yuna’

See our Festival YouTube Channel to hear the winning stories read by professional actors Elana Martin and Harry Jarvis.

The IACF Mystery Short Story Writing Competition is organised in promotional partnership with Literature Works and Libraries Unlimited, and generously sponsored by Wollens Solicitors and PKF Francis Clark.

We will be announcing the launch of the 2022 competition in the New Year.
