Torbay’s strange stories of writers, poets and the sea.
This September, The Tale is coming to Torbay. It creates a journey across the Bay, exploring places, artworks and performances. The Tale is inspired by writer Philip Hoare and his return to this area, his childhood haunts by the sea, and in the wide dramatic arena of Torbay. In this special talk for the Festival, and his new book, RISINGTIDEFALLINGSTAR (Fourth Estate), he explores the strange and remarkable evocations of the past, of arrivals and departures, filtered through the future from which we see them.
Philip Hoare is the author of Leviathan or, The Whale, The Sea Inside, as well as biographies of Stephen Tennant and Noel Coward and an historical study of Oscar Wilde. RISINGTIDEFALLINGSTAR is a composite portrait of the subtle, beautiful and inspired ways in which we have come to terms with our watery planet. Copies will be for sale and available for signing at this event.
The Tale journey starts at Torquay Museum and Philip will offer a glimpse as part of this event. Ticket discounts for The Tale are available for Agatha Christie Festival ticket holders.
